iCloud users on Windows used to download the iCloud for Windows app from the Apple Support Page. Apple has now published the iCloud app on the Microsoft store and made the entire process much easier. The app is listed as a free download on the Microsoft Store and can be installed by all Windows users.
Both the versions of iCloud offer the same set of functionalities. However, the new “iCloud Drive experience” uses OneDrive’s Files On-Demand feature which allows users to temporarily download and use the files without having to save them to offline storage.
Those who use the earlier version of the software can continue doing so. It is worth noting that Apple had released the iTunes app on the Microsoft store last year. With the iCloud app on Windows, you can access your iCloud Drive right from the File Explorer. The app also lets you share any file right from File Explorer and easily collaborate with others. Furthermore, the app also lets you access iCloud Photos, mail, Contacts, Calendar, Reminders, and Safari Bookmarks on Windows PC.

Microsoft’s Windows 10 S doesn’t allow users to sideload apps. In other words, users are forced to install apps from the Microsoft Store. This might be a good feature security-wise, however, not all developers have published their apps on the Microsoft Store. iCloud users on Windows 10 S will now finally be able to access the iCloud service via the iCloud Windows app.
