Apple Seeds tvOS 12.4, watchOS 5.3, macOS Mojave 10.14.6 Beta 1 to Developers

Following the public launch of tvOS 12.3, watchOS 5.2.1, and macOS Mojave 10.14.5, Apple is moving on to the next update.

Apple today seeded the first beta of tvOS 12.3, watchOS 5.3, and macOS Mojave 10.14.6 to developers. In both cases it’s likely that the new software is minor in scale. While watchOS 5.2.1 did introduce a new 2019 Pride flag watch face, and tvOS 12.3 introduced the revamped Apple TV app, both were not flooded with new features. That will likely be the case this time around as well. Apple’s latest beta will likely focus on behind-the-scenes tweaks and improvements, as well as the standard bug squashing.

To update to tvOS 12.4, developers need to install the profile through Xcode.

To update to watchOS 5.3, developers must make sure that the Apple Watch is at least 50% in battery life, connected to the charger, and also connected and within range of the iPhone.

To update to macOS Mojave 10.14.6, developers simply need to open System Preferences –> Software Update on their registered devices.

Nike Updating Its App to Support Using AR to Find the Right Fit For Your Next Shoe

Using an app to get something done is common practice now. 3D photo tours are available for buying a new home, for instance. And augmented reality (AR) can help us fill our houses with furniture before we buy it. So what about finding the right size for our next shoe?

Engadget is reporting that Nike is going to utilize augmented reality technology in a subsequent app update to help with finding your next shoe. The AR feature will actually measure your feet so that you can get that perfect fit. This is not a tool meant for folks who prefer buying their shoes in a store. But for those who buy shoes online.

Buying shoes can be a bit tougher than some might expect. The size might be a bit off from what you are used to with one brand to the next. And while size guides try to help, there’s definitely room for some error. Nike wants to make that easier by using augmented reality. It’s not a secret that Nike-branded shoes run a bit small.

Now, with the future update to the app coming later this summer, Nike says it can get a pretty precise measurement. Down to 2 millimeters, in fact. Using AR, the Nike app will be able to tell the volume of your foot, along with the size and shape. The app will then recommend the right shoe for you based on that information.

Nike will actually be using this AR feature in its stores to measure feet, too. So Nike is going all-in with AR measuring starting this year.

The app update will arrive in July in the United States. Sometime in August, Nike says it wants to launch the feature in Europe.
We Want To Hear From You

What do you think of this feature? Is it something you think could take off? Is it an actual useful scenario for augmented reality?

EU Will Investigate Apple after Spotify’s Complaint about Anti-Competitive Behavior

In March, Spotify went all out against Apple with its Time to Play fair campaign. In a detailed writeup and website, Spotify highlighted how Apple used its dominant position in the App Store to promote Apple Music over the competition. The move seems to have paid off as the EU has launched a formal antitrust investigation against Apple.

The investigation will start in the next few weeks but as these things usually go, it will take a fair bit of time to complete.

Spotify must be glad that it at least got the EU interested in how Apple is using the App Store for its own advantage even though it is not clear if the final result is going to be in its favor or not.

In its complaint to the EU and Time to Play Fair website, Spotify highlighted that Apple used to reject app updates which offered a better user experience. It mentioned how Apple used its position to offer Siri integration on the HomePod while not offering Spotify as an alternative.

Chuwiには、カスタマイズされたラップトップ、タブレットPC、妥協のない品質、安定性、サポート、パフォーマンスを備えたミニノート pcエクスペリエンスの世界有数のテクノロジーパートナーになることをミッションがあります。

To save the 30 percent commission that Spotify and other app developers need to pay Apple for IAPs, the music streaming removed the option from its app. This led Apple to bar Spotify from all direct communications with customers and ensure that it could not share any deals with customers.

Spotify has a timeline on the website highlighting Apple’s anticompetitive behavior from over the years.
Our Take

The results of the EU’s investigation will have major repercussions on the music streaming industry and how Apple treats its competition. What do you think the result of this investigation going to be?
